Set amidst lush greenery and majestic mountains, José Arcadio Caro Rueda together with his wife Marbeluz and his adolescent son Santiago devote their lives to the production of specialty coffee. Through meticulous processes and careful attention to every stage of cultivation, they produce only about 55 bags of this special coffee each year.
Their hard work and efforts were recognised in 2013 when Finca La Falda placed 7th in the Colombian Cup of Excellence competition. This was a significant win not just for the Caro Rueda family but also for the Department of Antioquia, establishing its reputation as one of the most important coffee-producing regions in Colombia.
In La Falda, 9500 trees of the Caturra variety are lovingly nurtured together with crops such as tomatoes, corn and grain which help to supplement the family income year-round. The main harvest takes place between February and May, while a second harvest occurs between October and December.
Coffee beans at La Falda are fully washed and dried on raised beds. It has the personal care of its producers, for whom coffee is their life – a long-standing tradition inherited from José Arcadio Rueda’s parents and grandparents.
